What if it happens?

What if a giant asteroid was headed for Earth? Let's say this asteroid is supposed to strike in 10 years and kill all human life. How would you react? What would you do in the meantime?

Old Home Essential - Portable Dishwasher

Do you have an old home that has no space for an under the counter dishwasher? Luckily for you they make what is known as a portable dishwasher. These dishwasher either go on top of your counter or they can stand upright on the floor (and have rollers), and clean the dishes just as good as a regular dishwasher.

I would recommend getting one that is energy star rated, because not only will it save you a lot of money on your bills, but it is much better for the environment. Energy star rated appliances use much less water than other appliances.

Some cool stuff

Ever thought about buying a smoker? How about an electric smoker? Electric smokers are great because they are way less messy and they are so easy to use. You should really try one.

To fight the cold this winter, you should get a garage heater. It will keep you warm when you are going to your car. You should also get a towel warmer for your bathroom. These nifty machines actually warm your towel while you shower. Oh...so nice!

Once summer gets here, you are going to want a new fangled waterproof digital camera. They make them now where you can actually drop them on the ground and they won't break either. They take pics underwater also, no prob. While you are in your boat you are also going to need a portable ice maker. These handy dandy machines can make a ton of ice as long as there is an electric outlet (and you have bottled water). Nothing like a cold drink on a hot summer day. These ice makers are great for camping trips too (if you have a power source). And for the ultimate city slicker out camping this summer, you will need a portable air conditioner. These are actually very cool (no pun intended!). Why be hot when you can stay cool?

And then once it is Christmas time, try getting a USB turntable for your music loving husband, brother, or uncle. If they have old records, this is perfect. You can convert your old records into digital format with a USB turntable, and transfer the music to a cd, or ipod.

And for the kid in your life, you may want to consider some electronic drums. These drums are not as loud as regular drums, and you can set them up in minutes. They still can be loud though, so buyer beware.

I would build a massive network of treehouses

First of all it depends on whether everyone else knew this was going to happen or not, because I could handle the knowledge and accept death, but I really feel that most people could not and therefore would totally freak out and there would be widespread chaos- either then the government would go into a crackdown state or it would just be total anarchy- but since this is only a hypothetical question i will answer in that fashion - thinking that things would not get too bad and i could still carry on a somewhat normal life.

I also, like jack posted down below, would live fairly close to how i do now- spend time with friends and family, i would probably stop playing video games though, but would probably not work out as much and drink/smoke more, but other than that i would stay in college.. and if everyone left college then i would head home and build a massive network of treehouses in the woods next to my house and have all my friends live there with me in the woods with nature.

I would build bunkers

I would try and build a business around building underground bunkers for people. I believe the world would panic and there would be a rush to have an underground bunker that could provide possible shelter and survival of the initial blast. In the event that the asteroid happened to miss the Earth, or if somehow the world made it miss, then I would be a rich man.

Whatever is the deepest desire of every individual, that would be his action

What if. What if all human life were about to end. Ten years is a long time--if, as is now the case, there were no reason to think that any catastrophe would end human life on earth, I think that I would spend the next ten years finding a wife and starting a family; attending church, reading scripture, and praying; furthering my education with more schooling, research, and reading; exercising; and enjoying my friends and family. If suddenly I knew that these next ten years were my last--our last--I don't think that much of this would change. Although I would not bring a child into the world, I would still find a wife; a woman's love is worthwhile in itself as a tutor for my soul and a picture of the Christian story. I would continue in my Christian faith--in fact, I would likely grow in it more, forced to rely on God to find significance; I would become bolder in my evangelism and more intentional in my prayers. I would continue in my education--this too is worthwhile in itself, although I suppose that I would be free to learn unfettered, rather than having to concern myself with finding long-term employment. My love for friends and family would, I think, only intensify. Not much would change in my own life.
Or maybe it would. If the world were coming to an end, farmers might not farm, factory workers might not produce clothing, utility companies might go under, and construction workers might not build more houses. No food, no clothing, no cars or boats or airplains, no protection from weather. The whole world might plunge into economic depression, and my lifestyle, though I would like for it to continue as normal, would doubtless be affected. I would do my best to find nourishment, to protect my house and family, and to join with friends in preserving our way of life. I would like to enjoy the fine things in life with those that I love, but brewers might not brew and tobacco farmers might switch to potatoes. I would like to continue my education, but printers might not print and institutions might close down. Bibles could be burned for heat, and churches turned into military forts. I fear that a coming catastrophe might bring out the worst in people, might make them selfish and anarchist. Society might fall apart, and force us all to live as men lived thousands of years ago--as hunters and gatherers. We might devolve into hairless apes, might have to worry about raiders and thieves, might turn into raiders and thieves ourselves. Rapes, murders, burnings, and riots might become comonplace.
Maybe. Or maybe our world would band together. Maybe the universities would turn their efforts to finding some way to avert disaster, or to preserving some remnant of humanity. Maybe artists would be inspired, churches envigorated, and scientists determined. If men could stop competing with one another and start helping one another, then maybe we could look past our differences in the interest of humanity. Racism and religious prejudice might disappear, selfishness might dissolve, and men might live how we should having been living all along. Maybe we could all benefit from catastrophe.

I don't know what would happen, except this--the masks would fall off. No more pretension, no more faking it--men would be men, women would be women. Whatever is the deepest desire of every individual, that would be his action. We would discover what really is human nature.

Cry, party, smoke.

I think if I learned this was happening, I would at first cry. Then I would probably just live it up for as long as I could (til everyone else freaked out and stopped partying). Then I believe I would really start to get stressed and do alot of smoking, as I wouldn't really care about my lungs, if I were about to die anyways?

Family, Friends, & Eternal Things

That is a good question. To be honest, I am not sure what I would do. For one reason, it is hard to know how the world would react? Would there be widespread panic? Would life continue as usual for at least the next 6 - 7 years? I do not know. What I would do would probably be more of a reaction to what the rest of the world was doing. I would like to think that I wouldn't change much. That I would primarily be concerned about family, friends, and eternal things. I would also probably try to do what I could to help a worldwide effort to save the planet from destruction, if such an effort existed.

purpose

This website was inspired by a show on the History Channel last night that was a re-run of an ABC News special. A link to it is on the right. I thought it would be interesting to get people's answers from around the world.
